History of the FNverlag

 

1976
- Constitutive meeting of the publishing house advisory board under chairmanship of the President of the FN, Graf Landsberg-Velen, in order to establish the FNverlag as a hundred percent subsidiary of the German Equestrian Federation. 
- Entry in the Register of Companies as an economically independent GmbH (private limited company) in December 1976. 
- FN General Secretary Dr. Ernst Burandt becomes Managing Director.

 

1977
- Publishing house work commences with five employees. Nominal capital 20,000 DM.
- FNverlag products are sold via bookshops, equestrian sports shops and direct marketing.
- Publication of the first FNverlag titles "Orientierungshilfen für die Planung und den Bau von Reitanlagen und Reitwegen", "Hindernisse und Hindernisteile", "Gymnastik für Reiter" and "Urlaub im Sattel".

 

1978
- Transfer of all printed matter of the FN, including the "Kalender für Bekanntmachungen, Pferdeleistungsprüfungen und Turniersport", to the publishing house programme.

 

1979
- Increase in the nominal capital to 100,000 DM and purchase of its own premises in the Freiherr-von-Langen-Straße 8, Warendorf.
- Hans-Joachim Hoof becomes Director of the Publishing House.

 

1980
- Publication of the first FN teaching charts and the book "Deutsche Reitlehre". 
- Competition forms and judges' noteblocks are included in the publishing house programme.
- "Zuchtwertschätzung und Zuchtplanung in der Reitpferdezucht", the first title in the "Scientific Publications" series is published .

 

1981
- The series "The Principles of Riding and Driving" is expanded by a further volume. The fundamental principles of German driving theory are published separately for the first time as Volume 5 "Driving".

 

1982
- First-time issue of "Deutsche Pferdezucht - Geschichte und Zuchtziele", the almost 500 page long standard publication on breeding  by Christian Freiherr von Stenglin.
- Nominal capital is increased to 300,000 DM.

 

1983
- The first FNverlag video – entitled "Vaulting" - is launched on the market.

 

1984
- The Olympia book "Olympia der Reiter '84 – Los Angeles" as well as the first edition of "Anatomie des Pferdes" by Prof. Dr. Bodo Hertsch are published.

 

1985
- Issue of the first edition of what has meanwhile become a long seller and bestseller "Das Pferdebuch für junge Reiter" by Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel.
- Dr. h.c. Josef Neckermann joins the FNverlag advisory board.

 

1986
- The Principles of Riding Volume 1: "Basic Training for Rider and Horse" appear in the 25th edition - meanwhile over 100,000 copies have been sold.
- The first edition of "Kavallerieschule Hannover" von Carl Friedrich Mossdorf is launched on the market.

 

1987
- Celebration of the FNverlag's tenth jubilee in Warendorf town hall. Publication of widely acclaimed stories in the compendium of stories "Die Nacht der fliegenden Pferde".
- The series "The Principles of RIding and Driving" is expanded by Volume 6: "Lungeing".
- Publishing House Manager Hans-Joachim Hoof retires.

 

1988
- Rainer Reisloh is made a further Managing Director in addition to Dr. Ernst Burandt. Siegmund Friedrich becomes new Publishing House Manager. 
- Publication of the Olympia Book "Olympia der Reiter – Seoul 1988" with Dr. Reiner Klimke.

 

1990
- The FNverlag is represented for the first time with bookstands in former East Germany, e.g. at CSIO in Gera and at the inter-state horse show in Cunnersdorf/Leipzig.

 

1991
- The video "Spielend reiten lernen" by Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel is presented at Equitana and receives a very positive response from the equestrian press.

 

1992
- Dr. Ernst Burandt retires. Siegmund Friedrich becomes Managing Director.
- Completion of the new FNverlag building at Freiherr-von-Langen-Straße 8a, Warendorf.
- Dr. Reiner Klimke is appointed to the FNverlag advisory board in place of the late Dr. h.c. Josef Neckermann.
- Publication in the summer of the biography of "Im starken Trab – Erlebnisse und Erfahrungen im Sattel", the biaography of Dr. Josef Neckermann as a rider which was edited and authorised shortly before his death.
- Publication of the Olympia book "Olympia der Reiter – Barcelona 1992" with Dr. Reiner Klimke.

Dr. Reiner Klimke, author and holder of a number of Olympic gold medals for dressage, and Siegmund Friedrich, FNverlag Managing Director, present the book "Olympia der Reiter – Barcelona 1992" at the International Indoor Horse Show held in the Westfalenhallen Dortmund.

 

1993
- A certificate is awarded by the selection committee of the "Forschungsgruppe Unterrichtsmedien im Sport e.V." for the two FNverlag videos "Spielend reiten lernen" and "In allen Sätteln gerecht" by Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel on the occasion of the "Int. Sportlehrfilmwettbewerbs" in Berlin.
- With Nicole Uphoff a further outstanding rider is acquired as an author for the FNverlag. Title of her first book: "Rund ums Pferd mit Nicole Uphoff".
- First edition of "Balance in der Bewegung – Der Sitz des Reiters“ by Susanne von Dietze, which also becomes a long seller and bestseller.

 

1994
- Monika Kirschner receives the high award of the "Silbernes Pferd" for her video which was produced in conjunction with the book "Rund ums Pferd mit Nicole Uphoff".
- With Hans-Heinrich Isenbart, the very experienced  television sports coordinator and well informed equestrian sports commentator, it is possible to engage the services of a further well-known horseman as author. His FNverlag video is entitled: "Faszination Pferd".

 

1995
- The FNverlag expands its range to include the "New Product Line" and with this additional market sector offers an extensive range of products for horse show organisers.

 

1996
- In the new series "EDITIONpferd", a wide variety of practical equestrian-related themes are dealt with and explained by means of easily comprehensible texts and many informative illustrations.
- The first titles in the "Hufeisen-Sachbuchreihe" are published with attractive illustrations and texts for children to give them their first taste of equestrian knowledge.
- Publication of the Olympia book "Olympia der Reiter – Atlanta 1996" with Dr. Reiner Klimke.

 

1997
- The FNverlag celebrates its 20th jubilee during the German Federal Championships.

 

1998
- The first edition of the book "Die Brücke zwischen Mensch und Pferd – Verständigung, Auseinandersetzung, Zusammenarbeit" by the most successful German Show Jumping trainer, Herbert Meyer, and the equestrian journalist and "Pferdewirtschaftsmeisterin", Ariane Pourtavaf.
- Since 1998 the FNverlag has been lending its support to up-and-coming young riders in the field of eventing and sponsors the selection tests in the local state associations and the German finals of the "Nachwuchschampionats der Vielseitigkeitsreiter" – the FNverlags-Trophy.

 

1999
- In October 1999 the FNverlag goes online.

- The title "Balance in Movement – The Seat of the Rider" by Susanne von Dietze is published in English under license in the J. A. Allen Verlag, London.

- A completely new edition  of the classical youth book "Das Pferdbuch für junge Reiter" by Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel is published. Meanwhile over 50,000 copies have been sold  and the 'Goethe-Verlagspreis 1999' was awarded for this title.

Presentation of the completely revised edition of the highly successful youth book "Das Pferdebuch für junge Reiter" by the author Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel and FNverlag Managing Director Siegmund Friedrich to enthusiastic young riders at Mannheim Riding Club.

 

2000
- Friedrich Witte is appointed to take the place of the late Dr. Reiner Klimke on the FNverlag advisory board.
- Publication of the Olympia book "Olympia der Reiter – Sydney 2000".
- The sport and breeding yearbooks are produced for the first time in CD-ROM form.
- First appearance of the book "Physiotherapie für Pferde" by Helle Katrine Kleven.

 

2001
- Appearance of the CD-ROM "Fit für das Reitabzeichen" – A multimedia instructional software for use in preparation for different riding tests – based on a combination of knowledge transfer and interactive learning.
- New in the programme: the "FN-collection" with specially selected items of sportswear and functional clothing for riders.
- Publication of the title: "Denk-Sport Reiten – Die faszinierende Logik der Ausbildungsskala". The author Michael Strick convincingly explains why the training scale functions the way it does and can not be subjected to any interpretation or application.
- First publication of the theory of western riding in the FNverlag under the title: "Westernreiten – Step by Step" by George Maschalani.

 

2002
- 25-year jubilee of the FNverlag. 
- The FNverlag offers specialised  equestrian seminars.
- A completely new edition of the title "Betriebswirtschaftslehre – Modernes Management für Pferdebetriebe und Reitvereine", part of the publishing house programme since 1983, is published.
- Publication of the book "Springpferde-Ausbildung heute" by Elmar Pollmann-Schweckhorst, followed by videos/DVDs under the same title.
- The title "Keine Angst vor Hindernissen" by Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel from the " Hufeisen-Sachbuchreihe" is published under license in the Greek language.

 

2003
- The comprehensive publishing house programme is further expanded in the FN instructional film series by the inclusion of DVDs.
- The book "Reiten kann man tatsächlich lernen" by Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel for all who want to learn as well as those who doubt their ability to learn, for beginners and those taking up riding again is launched on the market.
- The first edition of the "Pferde-Gesundheitsbuch – Einzigartige Kombination aus Schulmedizin und alternativen Heilmethoden" by Dr. med. Beatrice Dülffer-Schneitzer is published.
- New appearance of the title "111 Lösungswege für das Reiten – Methodische Übungsreihen für Reiter und Ausbilder in der dressurmäßigen Grundausbildung" by Karin Lührs-Kunert.
- Publication of the completely new edition of the title "Pferdekauf heute – Kauf und Verkauf, Beurteilung, Gesundheit sowie dem neuen Pferdekaufrecht" by the authors Dr. Sascha Brückner, Eberhard Fellmer and Dr. Antje Rahn, which first appeared in 1996 in the "Edition Pferd" series.
- In the completely new edition of the 10 year old success book "Balance in der Bewegung" by Susanne von Dietze this classical book is given a new lease of life with impressive photos and special illustrations. The video/DVD of the same name is produced under licence in the USA.
- Move to the modern rooms of the new FN building with significantly higher storage capacity.

 

2004
- The title "Olympia der Reiter – Athen 2004" is the sixth Olympia book published by the FNverlag. Thus 24 years' development and happenings in top-level sport of the Olympic equestrian disciplines dressage, jumping and eventing have been presented and documented.
- Publication of Dr. Petra Hölzel's book "Mit dem Pferdesport aktiv bleiben – mehr Lebensfreude durch den Umgang mit Pferden".
- Michael Putz, the well-known trainer and former successful rider in all disciplines up to advaced level, publishes the title "Reiten mit Verstand und Gefühl" in the FNverlag. In this book he convincingly explains that a serious and well thought out training concept, with appropriate feeling, according to classical riding theory is optimally suited to the horse.

 

2005
- Within the scope of the FN's 100 years' jubilee the FNverlag documents the eventful history of the German Equestrian Federation under the title "100 Jahre Pferdezucht und Pferdesport in Deutschland".

 

 

The FN President Jürgen R. Thumann and FN General Secretary Dr. Hanfried Haring present the German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder with a freshly printed copy of the FNverlag publication "100 Jahre Pferdezucht und Pferdesport in Deutschland" on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the German Equestrian Federation (FN) on 15.02.2005 in Berlin


- Market launch of Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel's book "Wenn Pferde sprechen könnten...sie können!", a kind of "translation aid" for horse language and a code of practice for better communication between human being and horse.
- As part of the FN "Besser Reiten" training offensive, the book "Besser Reiten – Wo ist das Problem?"   is published together with the video and the DVD "Besser Reiten".
- The "FN-Handbuch Pferdewirt" is published as a training companion and informative reference book for all practitioners, professionals, equestrian centre owners and potential equestrian professionals.
- The secret of long-lasting ability to perform and good equine health is described in the new publication entitled "Siege werden im Stall errungen – das Anti-Aging-Programm für Sport- und Freizeitpferde" by Monika Krämer.
- Trafalgar Square Publishing in the USA publishes the title"Training the Modern Jumper" by Elmar Pollmann-Schweckhorst in English under license. The DVD is also produced in English under the same title.
- Also under license, the following titles are published: "Balance in der Bewegung" in English in a completely new edition by J.A. Allen Verlag, London; the video/DVD "Balance in der Bewegung" in Japanese; "Die Deutsche Reitlehre – Der Reiter" in Hungarian; the "Richtlinien Band 6" in Polish as well as the "Richtlinien Band 1" in Turkish and Spanish, bringing the total number of languages up to six for this particular volume.

 

2006
- The fifth World Equestrian Games are held in Aachen! The FNverlag publishes the very popular, official bilingual documentation "FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006". The book includes reports in German and English with exciting texts as well as spectacular photos. It covers all seven equestrian sports disciplines which feature in the World Equestrian Games.

 

 

Rainer Reisloh and Siegmund Friedrich, Managing Directors of the FNverlag der Deutschen Reiterlichen Vereinigung GmbH, present the official World Championships documentation "FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006"


- As an impressive portrait of "Mister Fahrsport", the book "Michael Freund – Ein Leben für den Fahrsport" by Rudolf Temporini and Franz Steindl is published.
- Under the descriptive title: "Parcoursaufbau faszinierend logisch" the show jumping course design book by the authors Georg-Christoph Bödicker, Werner Deeg and Susanne Strübel is published by the FNverlag.
- The book "Balance in der Bewegung" is published under license in Spanish, the book "Springpferde-Ausbildung heute" in Polish as well as the book "Die Deutsche Reitlehre – Das Pferd" in Hungarian.

 

2007
- 30 years as Experts in all Equestrian Matters! – The FNverlag enters the fourth decade of its existence proud of its background and tradition, open to future developments and with a realistic sense of optimism. It has come a long way since the early days when it was associated almost exclusively with the German "Principles of Riding".

- The complete programme meanwhile includes interesting titles for all horse lovers, horse owners and breeders as well competition riders of all levels of training in all disciplines, riding styles and relating to different breeds of horses!  
- With new horse power as from 28th September 2007: www.fnverlag.de A completely new outfit, a user-friendly shop, video sequences, book excerpts, competitions, downloads, interactive games to play ... 
- Uwe Lukas, a master farrier with over 30 years' professional experience, produces a book "Gesunde Hufe – kein Zufall!" which provides the reader with a wealth of sound knowledge as well as useful advice concerning everything relating to horse's hooves and shoeing.
- With Christopher Bartle the FNverlag acquires an author whose experience as an internationally successful dressage and eventing rider and trainer is reflected in the book "Ausbildung des Sportpferdes. Dressur, Springen, Gelände" which gives a clear and complete overview of his concept for training horses and riders. Christopher Bartle has been federal trainer of the German eventing team since 2001.
- Under the title "FN-Handbuch Lehren und Lernen im Pferdesport" the German Equestrian Federation issues a new basis and reference book for all trainers in equestrian sport.
- Hans Günter Winkler – a living legend in equestrian sport – brings out the long-awaited new edition of  the bestseller, first published in 1956 "Halla, meine Pferde und ich" through the FNverlag. This book is published simultaneously in English.

 

2008
- From 01.01.2008 onwards new rules apply in German competitive sport. The "Aufgabenheft Voltigieren" is published to cover vaulting competitions. For competitions held at grass-roots level the new "Wettbewerbsordnung für den Breitensport (WBO)" and for competitions from preliminary level upwards the new "LPO 2008" is published.
- On account of the amendments made to the LPO (German Rule Book) in 2008, the new edition of the title "Richtlinien für Reiten, Fahren und Voltigieren, Band 3: Voltigieren" is published.
- The series "FN-Abzeichen" (riding tests) is further expanded by means of the title "Abzeichen im Fahrsport. Die vereinfachte Fahrlehrer – Vom Einsteiger zum Turnierfahrer". Wolfgang Lohrer, trainer at advanced level, course designer, holder of the "Goldenes Fahrabzeichen" is the author of this book.
- The FNverlag moves into new territory with the multimedia teaching and learning programme "Ausbildung rund ums Pferd". This CD-ROM is successor to the "Folienmappe Lehren und Lernen rund ums Pferd" and helps trainers to present their theory lessons competently and more attractively.
- The FN instructional films Part 3, 6 and 8 appear on DVD in a bilingual German/English version. Furthermore, these DVDs are suitable for the European as well as the American DVD system, a reflexion of the fact that the publishing house is extending the accessibility of its range beyond the German border.
- Publication of the English edition of "Reiten mit Verstand und Gefühl" (Riding with Understanding and Feeling" under license.
